Vision Series Activities

Professional Showcase Performance

Presents showcase performances in a well-established and respected professional venue external to the educational environment. The showcase features dancers from high schools and professional emerging choreographers derived from the local talent pool, College/University dance programs, dance studios and youth performance groups. The festival also presents special professional guest artists, high schools, and middle schools. Dancers and choreographers of all levels of expertise and experience are welcome to participate in the event.

Board of Professional Educators/Mentors

The Vision Series provides in-school consultations and on-site training by Professional Educators that serve as Mentors to high school students and professional emerging companies as they prepare for the Festival. They attend rehearsals to give constructive feedback in technique, choreography and performance. They provide additional comments to increase performance qualities during technical and dress rehearsals.

“Buddy System”

As the most popular and supportive and element of the Vision Series, both the companies and the schools in the Festival will be assigned a "Buddy" for the Festival (one company for each school). “Buddies” will be sharing the performance with each other. This system was created to generate artistic and educational support and community involvement with one another, especially giving younger dancers someone to look up to throughout the Festival. Both the company and school will allocate a Spirit Award for each other and it will be given prior to the professional performance. The awards are to boost spirit and enable everyone to feel that their efforts are appreciated and that their work makes a difference.

Scholarships

Scholarships are developed at each performance through donations and/or Silent Auctions. They are presented to the choreographers as encouragement for the artists to continue their careers. They are equally distributed so that participants do not perform in a competitive spirit and environment. Recipients may use scholarship funds to attend dance classes, workshops or use toward tuition to the college of their choice.

Education Dance Conventions and Workshops

Provide dance technique classes in modern, jazz, hip-hop, performance art, musical theater, improvisation and repertory classes by the professional educators, professional emerging choreographers and dRep to high school students. An informal Performance includes participating workshop schools and companies.

Vision Series Fundraisers

dRep is committed to expanding exposure and performance opportunities to all Vision Series participants and present performers as an integral part of fundraising events. Funds are utilized for Mentor fees, staff expansion, development of marketing efforts and materials, outreach to the general public, and general production costs for all events.
